Why reclaimed teak floors are never uniform
Natural colour variation is inherent to reclaimed teak. As an industry average, about 50% of a reclaimed teak production batch may show visible colour variation.
Our teak data sheet describes dark brown and gold tones, with sapwood that can be creamy or even brownish white; in the sales agreement we add that shades can run from very light yellow to dark brown, with greyish or greenish hues.
Sapwood, explained. When properly aged and selected, reclaimed teak sapwood is fully dried, hardened and structurally sound, with mechanical performance comparable to heartwood. We do not source freshly reclaimed teak from recently felled trees, because new sapwood would be soft and prone to decay or borer attack.
Need a more even floor? Colour selection, sorting or exclusion is possible on request, subject to a feasibility check and adjusted pricing. Tell us before you order: without a colour request, acceptance of the natural variation is implied (see the sales agreement).

Tongue and groove, or shiplap
What the data sheet says
Teak is dense, hard and listed as stable. Pre-boring is recommended when nailing or screwing, because of a slight tendency to split. Teak needs appropriate finishing, coating and regular maintenance depending on exposure; natural weathering or patina is not considered a defect.
Wood-finishing products are available at our showroom. Installation is carried out by your contractor; we advise on fixings, adhesives and acclimatisation on request.

Reclaimed or plantation-grown teak?
Both are teak, but they are different materials and we keep them separate. Reclaimed teak brings history, variation and limited availability; plantation-grown teak (with SVLK-verified or FSC-certified options available on request) suits projects that need consistency, larger quantities or specific dimensions. See interior examples and our FAQ.

How many boards for your floor?
For tongue-and-groove boards, the covered width can be slightly less than the nominal width: we confirm on your drawings.
Estimate only, based on the numbers you enter. The 10% allowance is an editable starting point, not a Kitaru specification: the right margin depends on your layout and on the natural variation of reclaimed timber. We will confirm quantities on your drawings.
