A hardwood made for the outdoors
Bangkirai is a dense tropical hardwood from Kalimantan. Our data sheet lists a specific gravity of 0.91, strength class I–II and natural durability class I–II (III). As reclaimed material, every board has already served in a building or structure, which is why you will see old bolt holes, interlocked grain and colour shifts that new timber does not have.
Bangkirai is difficult to dry and to treat, and it can split, check or deform if dried badly (data sheet). We aim to supply naturally air-dried reclaimed Bangkirai whenever possible; moisture content can vary from piece to piece.

Choose the edge that suits your fixing method
GnG boards carry a groove on both long sides, typical for hidden fasteners such as the GAP3 / GAP4 decking clips in our Hardware range. Tell us your fastening system so we match the profile.
Two options, clearly labelled
Recovered, with history
Taken from dismantled structures, with natural variation and marks. Availability depends on what we recover; each batch is physically checked in our yard, with origin photos where available.
When reclaimed cannot meet the demand
For large quantities, uniform appearance or specific lengths that reclaimed stock cannot cover, we can also source new Bangkirai — including SVLK-verified or FSC-certified options on request — quoted separately and always described as new. See projects in context or our FAQ.
Fixings, installation and finish
Installation is carried out by your contractor: Kitaru supplies the timber and the hardware, and advises on fixings. Dense hardwoods call for suitable stainless fixings; our range includes A2 / A4 stainless decking screws, concealed-head screws and hidden decking fasteners (GAP3, GAP4). Send us your joist spacing and fixing method with your request so we can recommend board thickness and profile.
Like most outdoor hardwoods, untreated Bangkirai gradually turns grey. To keep a warmer tone, plan for periodic oiling or a suitable finish; wood-finishing products are available at our showroom. Proper acclimatisation, installation and finishing remain the responsibility of the customer or installer (sales agreement).

How many boards for your deck?
A quick estimate from the area and the board format. We confirm quantities on your drawings.
Estimate only, based on the numbers you enter. The 10% allowance is an editable starting point, not a Kitaru specification: the right margin depends on your layout and on the natural variation of reclaimed timber. We will confirm quantities on your drawings.
