The standard board

Our standard reclaimed Bangkirai decking board is 18 mm thick, 100 mm wide and 3600 mm long (nominal length). A narrower 18 × 80 × 3600 mm board is available on request.

Three edge profiles

E2E — Eased 2 edgesThe two upper long edges are softened.
E4E — Eased 4 edgesAll four long edges are softened.
GnG — Groove & grooveA groove on both long sides, for hidden fasteners.

E2E and E4E boards are typically face-fixed. GnG boards carry a groove on both long sides, which suits hidden fasteners such as GAP3 and GAP4. Tell us your fixing system so that we match the profile.

Smooth or rustic?

The catalogue lists each board in a smooth and a rustic (wire-brushed) finish (references DBKS-S4E2BR and DBKCB-S4E2BR). Because the difference is one of surface, we recommend asking for a sample of each from current stock before choosing.

Fixing

Use stainless (A2 or A4) or suitably coated fixings. In dense hardwoods, pre-drill pilot holes, use two screws per board at each joist, keep screws at least 2.5 cm from the board edge and leave a consistent gap, typically 3 to 10 mm. Our hardware range covers screws, hidden fasteners and post bases.

A dense wood needs care

Bangkirai is dense (specific gravity 0.91 in our data sheet) and difficult to dry and to treat; it can split, check or deform if it is dried badly. We aim to supply naturally air-dried reclaimed Bangkirai whenever possible, but moisture content can vary from piece to piece. Let the boards acclimatise on site before installing. Acclimatisation, installation and finishing remain the responsibility of the customer or installer.

Colour and ageing

Reclaimed Bangkirai ranges from reddish-brown to brown, with lighter or darker areas, mineral streaks and natural markings. Like most outdoor hardwoods, it gradually turns grey if left untreated; periodic oiling or a suitable finish keeps a warmer tone.

Before you order, settle these

  • Area and layout, including cuts around obstacles
  • Joist spacing and fixing method (screws or hidden clips)
  • Edge profile and surface finish
  • Delivery location and unloading arrangements (delivery may include loading, never unloading)
  • Current stock and lengths: ask, because availability changes with each arrival
